HOW TO MOVE FORWARD – Contact Us

Do I Really Need Representation?

Don't feel alone, if you are new to the process and have far more questions than answers, we can help. One of the most frequent questions asked is,  "How do I find out if my child has a learning disability, and if so, does it qualify them for specific educational support?"

Our goal is to help you obtain the right support for your child as soon as possible.  For that reason, often an Advisory Consultation can provide sufficient direction for you to undertake the process yourself.

We consider our role not just as attorney, but more broadly as an ombudsman, advisor and guide for both parent and child. This is important because often a learning disability is a dynamic which changes over time, and therefore requires periodic re-evaluation, re-adjustment of support, and consequent renegotiation with education authorities.

Assembling the considerable information required, following legal and school procedures and protocols, and in general understanding the strategies that must be followed, is a complex and time-consuming task. It can be accomplished faster and more effectively by someone experienced in the educational system and skilled in exercising the legal system.

If you have already been attempting to obtain support and have become frustrated with your school's response, bringing an attorney into the discussion is often a successful factor in obtaining support.

What Will I Learn from an Advisory Consultation?

First, we will discuss your concerns and determine where you are in the process. We will review your child's records ( or your records if you are an adult student) and educational situation your child's ( or your) educational needs, and offer specific guidance on your legal and educational rights. We will then outline a strategy to help you obtain appropriate educational support. The consultation will provide parents and/or the child with a much clearer picture of what needs to be done. In many cases the parent or individual is then able to advocate for themselves. In more difficult or complex cases we will outline a plan to guide you through the process and intervene directly with educational authorities.

How long will our session last, what should I bring, and what is the cost?

A typical Advisory Consultation will last about one hour, and will cost $250. If we agree on recommended professional intervention, your entire Advisory Consultation fee will be credited toward subsequent services for up to three months time.

To get the most from our Advisory Consultation session, please print out and complete our EDUCATION INFORMATION FORM and bring it to the meeting. You may schedule your Advisory Consultation by calling our Office at 941-487-7527 or 800-449-1051.
